NSW Discounted eID Ear Tags
New South Wales, along with other Australian states and territories, has mandated the use of electronic ear tags (eID tags) for sheep and farmed goats born on or after January 1, 2025. Furthermore, from January 1, 2027, eID tagging will be mandatory for all sheep and farmed goats prior to leaving a property, regardless of age.
To facilitate this transition, the NSW Government has launched an eID Tag Discount Program, providing financial support to sheep and goat producers through discounted tag prices. Under this program, a discount of $0.76 per tag is available for 2025 NLIS-accredited WHITE eID devices, including tags and leg bands. These discounted prices are displayed on our website (see further down the page) and will be available until December 31, 2025, or until funds are depleted. Only one discounted tag order per PIC is allowed for orders under 3500 tags. For orders over 3500 tags, pre-approval is required, and multiple orders can be requested.
Two key dates:
- 1 January 2025: All sheep and goats born on or after this date must have an electronic tag instead of a visual tag when moved off the property.
- 1 January 2027: All sheep and goats moving off the property must be electronically tagged, regardless of their birth date.
